Some may be wondering “Hide and Seek? What’s that all about?”
Yes, it’s the story of Jonah. How God sent him to Nineveh and he decided to run away from God and he headed to Tarshish. Well, we all know he didn’t go too far with that. I have a feeling God said “You want to hide from me? I have a better place for you to hide, the belly of a big fish!”.
One major thing that makes us hide for God is sin. God asked Jonah to go to Nineveh but he decided to disobey God and he went on a ship going to Tarshish to run away from God.
Jonah 1 verses 1 & 2
1 The word of the Lord came to Jonah son of Amittai: 2 “Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me.”
3 But Jonah ran away from the Lord and headed for Tarshish. He went down to Joppa, where he found a ship bound for that port. After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from the Lord.
The same incident happened in the garden of Eden when Adam and Eve disobeyed God.
Genesis 3 verses 8 – 10
8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9 But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”
10 He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”
Adam and Eve also hid from God. One common thing in the 2 stories are the sin of disobedience. Adam and Eve disobeyed God, they hid from God. Jonah also disobeyed God and ran away to hide from God.
No matter the circumstance or the situation, we can never hide from God. Sin is a very dangerous element that makes us far way from God and allows the devil to have a field day in our lives. As children of God, the last place we want to be is far from God.
Well, unlike Adam and Eve, Jonah asked for forgiveness. When we sin against God, It’s important that we run back to Him and ask Him for forgiveness. The Lord forgave Jonah and just like He forgave Jonah, He is ready to also forgive us as well.
1st John 1 verse 9
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
Don’t give the devil a field day, run back to the father for forgiveness, forgiveness that comes form the heart and He always has His hands wide opened for you to come.
Sin is very dangerous, don’t let it take you far away from God, it did a lot of damage to Adam and Eve and it was about to do the same to Jonah, if not for mercy.
Obey God and do everything to be close to Him.
Ecclesiastes 12:13 (CEV)
13 Everything you were taught can be put into a few words: Respect and obey God! This is what life is all about.
