A Lesson for All Ages
Driving to church one October evening, our children told us how a bully at their school had hurt them in many ways. They were angry and wanted justice. This reminded us of how important it is to talk to our children about forgiveness, no matter how old they are. That’s why we chose forgiveness as the theme for November 2023.
Whenever people interact, they can offend each other, even unintentionally. That’s why we need forgiveness. We adults often find it hard to forgive. How much more the little ones, who are still growing and learning?
The Bible says that we must forgive others if we want God to forgive us (Matthew 6:14-15 & 18:21-35). We know it’s not easy, but remember that God sent his Son Jesus to die for us, even though we didn’t deserve it. His blood made a way for us to be forgiven.
Let’s ask God to help us forgive through prayer, his word, and his Spirit. If there is someone you can’t forgive, bring it to God and ask for his grace.
Let’s also help our children learn to forgive. They face many hurts from others too. If we teach them the right way, they will grow up to be forgiving adults who please God.
